The Garmin handheld GPS Colorado 400t receiver is the successor of the much touted Colorado 400c series. Like the original device, this unit also features a three inch diagonal screen which incorporates the latest touch screen technology. Touch screens are fast catching up in the latest gizmos and gadgets and it was only a matter of time before they found their place in GPS receivers.

The color screen is highly readable under direct sunlight and this is remarkable because most of the units of similar type fail miserably in this department. Thanks to the innovative software which has been programmed into the Garmin handheld GPS Colorado 400t, the interface is easily understandable both for the experienced and not so experienced user. Due to this interface which states all the important guidelines on the screen, the device is fun to work with, especially outdoors.

Its ABS plastic covering adds to its durability and has also been found to be water proof to some extent. Humidity and water are the two main culprits that hamper the working of GPS units, but due to the rugged construction of the Oregon 400t, these factors do not affect the Colorado 400t handheld GPS receiver as long as it is not submerged in water.

Topographic maps, mainly of the American and the European continents have been preloaded into the unit. Three dimensional view of the map is also made possible in the device. The unit may be very useful for those who are into hiking and mountain climbing. All the relevant details about the local and national parks and sanctuaries, coupled with information about rivers and lakes are also preset in the Colorado 400t handheld GPS receiver.

The points of interest have also been marked properly. With this feature, even the steepness of a hill can be accurately analyzed using the three dimensional technology of the unit. Wireless transfer of guidelines such as points of interest and Geocacheing files is also made possible. Not only does the Garmin handheld GPS receiver support Colorado users but also the Oregon GPS users also. Transferring data from one unit to the other can be accomplished just by touching the send button.

Geocaching technology has found its place in a miniature form in this product. The website provides GPX files which are helpful and contains the details of the surroundings. It is only a matter of uploading the necessary GPX files to the unit and everyone can be set to go. Due to the Colorado 400t’s GPX files features, you do not need to enter manually the coordinates of the current location, or the destination. Everything is done automatically.

As with its predecessor, the unit features a photo viewer which supports JPEG file format. Two very important guidelines desired for any GPS unit are that they should be slim and easy to place in a pocket. The Garmin Handheld GPS Colorado 400t fits these two attributes nicely!

The compass, which is in built, is electronic in nature. WAAS GPS receiver and HotFix satellite precision algorithms have been found in Colorado 400t handheld GPS receiver too.
