One surveyor today using GPS can do what would take weeks before using a team of helpers. GPS technology has been accepted and used by surveyors and map makers around the world for their operations.

 

GPS technology, using three dimensional positioning information has been adopted by disaster teams around the world to provide fast and accurate help for search teams as well as for survivor help. Using GPS data, mountains, bodies of water, and other obstacles can be identified instantly for rescue teams. GPS has been used in the last few years around the world for many major disasters. It is easier and faster to map disaster areas using GPS technology than in the past.

 

Government agencies, scientific organizations as well as business organizations around the world are now relying on data from GIS and GPS for planning and utilizing better use of man power and other resources available.

 

Surveyors using GPS technology are not hampered by physical barriers like buildings or hills or mountains like older methods were. Hence, surveying and map making is greatly enhanced.

 

In remote areas one person can carry equipment needed for operations in a backpack. Before GPS technology several persons or vehicles might have been required to carry the equipment needed.

 

GPS is truly a reliable and innovative advancement for surveying and map makers. It will become faster and more cost effective as GPS technology continues to evolve.
